Free Website SEO Analysis

Before I forget:

I came across this page that offers to check your website/page to measure its strength, and rates it based on popularity and optimization.  It's a nifty, free service aimed at giving you an idea of how the search engines see your page.  This free (I just love saying that word) tool will give you some heads-up about some onsite and offsite factors you might check on to improve your rankings.  Here's the site: SEOzio by eyeflow.

I'm sure you'll find it of immense value to your SEO efforts.

Duplicate Content Checkers

Here's another gem of a site that I found.  It will let you compare two sites/pages for duplicate content:

http://www.webconfs.com/similar-page-checker.php

If you want something off-line, a software that you can use to see how much of your articles' contents are similar, get the awesome DupeFree Pro!  It's free, and take my word for it, it's just excellent for your article writing efforts.

Another site you can go to to check if your content is a duplicate, or to find out if somebody is unscrupulously stealing your content is Copyscape.  Its free service is to search the web for copies of your page.  It offers two paid services: Premium (checks the web for copies of your content to find out if you can safely publish it) and CopySentry (scours the web so you can go after plagiarists who steal your content).

That's all for now!

Track Google rankings quickly and easily!

Hello again!

In my ongoing search for SEO software that I can use, I've come across a couple such as Market Samurai, IBP, and Link-assistant's Rank Tracker. Honestly, I can't speak about the first two (although I've tried using them), but as far as free software goes, Rank Tracker is excellent. Of course, some functionalities have been disabled, but the tool is great nonetheless. I've taken it for a test drive and I came away impressed. I suggest you do the same. Here's the link:

Let me know how you like it.

Free Traffic System: An Introduction

I'm a little excited about this one!  As with almost all things about internet marketing I've learned so far, I just stumbled upon this.  I've seen A LOT of ads, endorsements, etc. about new products that are supposed to make you rich just by clicking on a button (don't be fooled), but there are some genuinely good products out there that will actually help you out.  Also, I only believe a handful of people who promote or endorse products, one of them is James Hicks.  So why am I excited about this?  Because James Hicks uses it too!

Introducing:  Free Traffic System

What is FTS?  It's a system that will build those precious backlinks for you.  Write an article, and have FTS spin it then submit it to personally-hosted blogs around the world for you.  It's like submitting articles to article directories, in essence.  What's more, this is above-board.  Meaning, this isn't some underground tactic that Google will penalize you for.  It's not blackhat SEO either, so you can rest-assured that your hard work is rewarded accordingly.

Of course, you'll still have to write your articles.  This is a supplementary way to build your backlinks.  You still have to write articles and submit them to article directories, but now FTS will also submit your content to blogs around the world, to help you create those backlinks.  Better some help than none, right?

I just signed-up today, and you can bet that I'll start harnessing the power that this system provides for FREE.  There is an upgrade option, that will give your contents priority and will be sent to more blogs, but that's up to you to decide on.  Give it a spin, and see how you like it.

Today let's talk a little about SEO or search engine optimization.  Have you come across this phrase yet?  Well, if you're into online marketing, you should've at least encountered it once.  What is it for, you ask?  It’s to optimize your website to show up on the first page of a search engine’s results without having to pay for it.
The truth is, everybody's competing to be included in the first page of search results.  This almost ensures better traffic to their pages, which might translate to better sales and exposure.

For example, if you were to type a certain phrase on Google, the first page results would usually be the ones you'd click on, right?  Truth of the matter is, it's very rare that anybody would search past page 1, unless Google returns pages that aren't the ones you were looking for, which could be a case of you not typing in the right search phrase, most probably.

For the most part though, nobody goes past the first page of search results, so that's where you want to be, if you were vying for targeted traffic based on whatever keyword you're aiming for.  Let's talk about what a keyword is.

Keyword - this is the word or phrase that defines your market.  Say that you have a website about dog shampoos.  Then your keyword would be "dog shampoo" or "shampoo for dogs".  What you want then is that when people type that keyword on Google (or any other search engine), your website would appear on first page, preferably the top 5 sites listed.  Admittedly, you can PAY Google to advertise your site on the first page (called PPC or pay per click), but if you're not cautious, that can quickly drain your budget, especially if people don't patronize your product(s).  Simply, you would want to be on the first page of Google, listed free, as compared to paying for it.  This would be really easy if you didn't have competition, right?  But what are the odds of that?  So, what you need to do is to choose keywords that are not too competitive, AND optimize your site for the search engines.

First things first:  Keyword research

Okay, so you need to do keyword research.  That means a couple of things:

1. Snoop on your competition.  When you search Google for your targeted keyword(s), look at the first 5-10 sites that come up in the organic listing.  Look at their products, etc.  But the real reason for this is, we want to check their backlinks.  So list down the websites' URL (www.competitor.com) then back on Google, type (without the quotes) "link:www.competitor.com".  This will then show you results of other webpages that have linked back to your competitors' websites.  By now, you should be familiar with backlinks.  In other words, this result will tell you your competitor's backlinks.  When you have a list of those sites, you can then work on getting those as your site's backlinks as well.

2. Get a piece of paper (or use Notepad), write down synonyms, phrases that have to do with your targeted keywords.  Think like your target market, and anticipate what they would search for that has something to do with your keywords.  Decide on one main keyword, then two or three supplementary keywords.

3. Start the actual research.  Search for Google Adwords and sign up.  This is actually Google's PPC business, but don't worry, you're not going to pay for an ad campaign; you're just going to use their excellent keyword research tool.  Once you're finished with the sign-up process, click on "Keyword and Tools" then "Keyword Tool."  Put in your keywords and you will then get important information that may help you choose what keywords to actually use.  Pay particular attention to "Competition", "Global Monthly Searches" and "Local Monthly Searches."  Choose keywords that have less competition but are still relevant to your niche.  There are a lot of helpful videos on YouTube that you can refer to to help you understand this data.

Once you've decided on your keywords, it's time to start the real work.

There are 2 processes involved in SEO: onsite and offsite.  Onsite refers to the actions that you need to take to make your site visible to the search engines.  Offsite refers to how you're going to advertise the popularity of your page to the search engines.  The former talks about optimizing your page’s design, layout, and content according to your keywords to help search engines identify your site with a certain keyword(s), the latter talks about how you're going to make your site rank higher for the given keyword(s).

Onsite Optimization
This is not as easy as you think, because it requires that you have some knowledge of HTML.  If you have a webmaster, then this should be a walk in the park.  What are some things that you need to be aware of when doing onsite optimization?
Have a sitemap – this helps search engines index your pages better.  Get the xml, html, and robots.txt files then place those in your root directory.
Domain name choice – this is a bit controversial.  Some people say that keywords in your domain name is relevant, some say otherwise.  In any case, I’d admit it would be easier for people to find your site if your keyword is there.  Ex. www.best-doggy-shampoos.com
Domain extension – as much as you can, stick with the .com extension.  This is the most common, and the easiest to remember.  This is also the default extension that people know.
Title tag – your main keyword has to be in here.
H1 tag – try to use just one H1 tag per page, and put your main keyword in there too.
H2 tags – you can use this for your supplemental keywords.
Content – this is where keyword density comes in.  Typically, you’d want a 1% to a maximum of 5% density.  This means that for every 100 words, 5 words are your main keywords.  You can sprinkle your content with your secondary keywords too.  Just don’t overdo it.
Anchor text – this refers to links.  As much as possible, use your keywords or your URL as anchor texts.  Don’t just say “Click Here” or “Go Here”.

Offsite Optimization
This is actually more difficult than onsite optimization, because this entails that you advertise your site.  Some of the things you can do are:
Back links – this is where you get authority sites to link back to your site.  This is harder than you think, because if you’re new on the block, it’s pretty hard to get their attention.  How can you do this?  Some examples are:
o Article writing submission – must be focused on your niche.  Submit to article directories such as this one
o Reviews of products or services in your niche that other sites may find interesting enough to link to
o Reviews of your own products or services that other sites may consider important
o Interview authority figures in your target niche that other sites may consider linking to
o News flash – announce your site, products and services
o Forums – join forums related to your niche and make valuable contributions
o Blogs – start blogs about your products and services
o Relevant content on your own page
o Link wheels – make use of social bookmarking and web 2.0 sites (some sites offer to do this for you for a fee)
o Purchase one-way links – be careful of this, because you might get punished by search engines
o Reciprocal linking – search for sites in the same niche and arrange for two-way linking.  Not as powerful as one-way links, but better than none at all
o Subscribe to link farms – again, be careful of this
Get your page indexed by the major search engines
Have your content syndicated through RSS
Advertise – If you have the budget for advertising, you might consider allocating some money for exposure.  Some examples are:
o PPC – as mentioned previously, pay-per-click could be beneficial, but make sure you compute for returns on investment and at what point you should call it quits
o Traffic exchanges or banner exchanges – mostly free, but limits your exposure to an audience that might not be interested in your niche
o Offline marketing – put your site address on calling cards, flyers, newspaper/magazine ads
o Put up a FaceBook fan page – free advertising
o Sign up for Twitter
o Set-up Google Places to list your business for local searches
Pay for SEO services – truthfully, managing all this on your own could be daunting.  Writing content and articles, building links, signing up for web 2.0 and social bookmarking sites can be very time-consuming activities.  If you have the patience and the time, you can do this on your own or with some help from partners and friends.  Otherwise, you might see better results from getting professional services.

I’ve just given you a general idea of what you should do to help your rankings in the search engines.  While this is not an exhaustive list, you should now have a better idea of the activities inherent in getting your site ranked better in search engines.  If you like my article, please link back to my blog: Jump now, Fly later.  See, that’s an example of a good anchor text!

7 Simple Steps To Selling Yourself

We're all in the selling business whether we like it or not. It doesn't matter be it you're a teacher or a bus driver, an employee or a store owner, an engineer or a judge.

Each day you are selling who you are; nothing happens until you're successful at doing that.

We all use up a great deal of our effort trying to persuade people to buy our product or service, accept our proposals or simply accept what we say.

Before you get better at influencing other people - you must get better at self-motivation and selling yourself.

Here are 7 common-sensical steps to selling yourself better:

1 – Trust in the product

Selling yourself is a lot like selling anything. You have to believe in what you're pitching. That means believing in "you." It's about a lot of affirmative self-talk and the right mindset.

The first thing people notice is your outlook. If you don’t have the proper attitude, then people will tune in to that and you would have already lost your chance.

It really all comes down to how you talk to yourself. The majority of people are more likely to talk to themselves in a negative way - this is what makes them unsuccessful.

It’s about the correct attitude - the quality of your thinking.

Successful folks have a constructive and optimistic way of seeing themselves and their work. They feel good about themselves and believe that everything they do will lead to their certain victory.

If you're in a sales job, whether as a store owner or a sales clerk, then you need to continually work on your attitude, your thoughts. You have to absolutely believe in yourself, no matter what happens.

Of course, you probably won’t close every sale, but that doesn’t mean you put yourself down or that you’re not successful. Here is where positive attitude comes in: you evaluate what happened, then you correct it, then you try again, all the time knowing without a doubt that you will prevail, whatever happens.

2 – Be attractive

Like any product we buy, how the product is packaged and presented will affect our decision to purchase.

Everything about you needs to look good, and you must dress aptly for the occasion. Don't think that just because your customer dresses casually, that you can dress the same way. Remember: you are the seller. If you were the customer, how would you like the product to be presented to you?

So be careful in your choices of apparel and accessories. Everything you wear will say something about who you are. Your aim is to appear “trustworthy.” People buy from trustworthy people.

3 – Be welcoming, warm and friendly

I’m a big fan of good customer service. And one thing I always look for is a warm and friendly smile. Don’t let that fool you, though. Don’t think that because you smiled, you passed the requirement. The smile that people respond to is a genuine smile, one that reaches the eyes and is obvious in the way the person acts. Please, no fake smiles. No need for a wide, toothy grin either. A welcoming smile that says “Hello, I’m glad to be of service!” will be enough.

And if you’re going to be in the habit of smiling, might as well ensure you visit your dentist regularly, you know what I mean.

4 – Be a name-caller

Use the customer’s name as soon as you get it, but don't over use it. It’s a bit grating if somebody peppers each sentence with your name, right? Also be wary of going straight to first name basis. Even if business is less stiff nowadays, you’d still want to check if they don’t mind. Finally, make sure they get your name, too. Hand out your card and ask for one in return, if applicable. Customers are flattered when their card is being asked for, it creates rapport.

5 – Be observant

When we meet new people, our defenses are almost always on alert. As a person selling yourself first and foremost, the objective is to get over that wall. Watch for expressions, body language, overt and subtle signs to check if the person is receptive to you. How does this person see you?

What does their body language tell you? Are they at ease with you or are they a bit guarded? Are they focusing on you or not? If they're not comfortable and not listening then make an effort to get them comfortable and focused by making small talk, get them to warm up to you. Being an authority on something always pays off in terms of conversation.

Once you get them talking, get in the groove with them. If your customer speaks slowly, then adjust your rate of speech accordingly, and vice versa. It’s just good communication, and it applies whether you’re face to face, or on the telephone.

6 – Be attentive and interested

Don’t you just dislike people who don’t even give you the courtesy of responding? Same goes for you. Say you’re listening, but you don’t give out indications that you are, how do you expect the other person to know that you are, in fact, listening? It’s just downright uncouth, don’t you agree? Nod your head, look the person square in the eyes, respond accordingly, smile, laugh, say “uh huh” or something, just make sure you let the other person know you’re listening.

Give your customer a reason to like you, because you are, after all, selling yourself first.

When the customer feels that you’re attentive to them, that you give them value and you realize their value, you’re effectively raising their self-image. People are self-conscious, always worried about their image. Attend to that, and you’re in business.

Just be wary that you’re not unduly flattering the customer, because you’ll just come off as a con man. Just be genuinely interested. The other person is also trying to sell himself. Reciprocity is key.

7 – Be a positive influence

Everybody has their ups and downs, but nothing shoots down a conversation faster than a negative comment. I’m not advocating to sugarcoat things or lie, but try to stay clear of negatives if you can talk about the positives. For example, it’s a rainy day. Instead of saying “I hate rainy days because I’ll get soaked,” you may say “I like how the rain cools down the city” or something to that effect. People respond to positives, and it has the bonus of attracting like-minded people to you.

Remember, before you can sell anything, you have to sell yourself first. It’s been said that buyers will only buy from people they trust, whether as a friend, or as an authority figure, or both. So as long as they’ve bought into YOU, in whatever capacity, then you have their business. Trust is a fickle commodity, however, so make sure once you obtain it, that you take care of it as well as you can. After all, your dentist’s fees can get really expensive.

Why work from home to make money?

Why Work From Home?

Lately, there’s been a trend towards working from home.  People have become more stressed out in the workplace, and have seriously begun looking for ways to earn money online.

Let’s look at some reasons why people have begun deciding to work from home in the convenience of their own house.

Travel time – Travelling to and fro during rush hour in heavy traffic conditions has become almost undesirable for some.  Waking up so early in the morning just to rush to the office just does not hold a candle to waking up when you want.  Aside from waking up so early, the traffic conditions in most cities have gotten to a point where people are already stressed even before they begin their day.

The Supervisor – Most of us who have slaved for a boss understand how hard it is.  Aside from the pressures of the job itself, trying to find favor with a strict boss is almost enough to drive people to jump themselves out of a rooftop.  Sometimes you wonder if it’s really worth the effort.  Also, the employer holds the way to your promotion, so making sure he’s satisfied with your work is the only method to become successful in the corporate world.

Office Politics – Ahh, the proverbial stick that broke the camel’s back.  Office rumors can also make a dent on a person’s armor.  If you’re the kind that likes these activities, then good for you.  But if you’re perceived as someone who isn’t one of them, and some of them are pretty well-entrenched, you run the danger of getting bad-mouthed behind your back, which of course, might destroy your reputation, robbing you of that much-deserved raise.

Family – There’s been more focus on issues surrounding family these days.  More folks have started seeing the importance of keeping the family intact.  In today’s world, both parents have to strive to be able to provide for the family’s survival, leaving the children at home with no real authority figure to mold them.  This contributes to the downfall of society in general.

Life – It seems like everyday we’re all scampering around trying to make just more money.  Years after, we look at ourselves and we’re old.  Where did the time go?  We don’t have a lot of time in this world, so more and more people are deciding to understand the value of quality in one’s life.

So what can we do to improve quality of life?  Seek ways to earn money at home by working online!  There are a lot of options to earn money online.  Let’s look at some of them:

---disclaimer: this part was edited for the article to pass ezinearticles.com---
PTC or Pay To Click – Pay-To-Click is a very simple method to make money online.  All you have to do is click on ads offered by a PTC site.  How does it work?  An advertiser wanting to get more traffic to his site will pay the PTC site to show his site.  The PTC site will then compensate you to click on those websites.  In short, the advertiser gets his traffic, the PTC site gets paid, and you get compensated too.  It’s really easy, and if you have spare time, you can do this full-time if you wish.
---end of disclaimer---

Affiliate Marketing – Affiliate marketing relies on a very easy idea to make extra money online. The idea is to promote the products and services of another company by using your own site.   You don’t even need to have your own site anymore; you can just use social networking like Twitter.  So even if you don’t have products of your own, you can still act as a medium for other companies.  This has been proven to be a great way to make extra money online without hurting your budget.  Basically you will have to refer customers to your affiliate company’s services.  You can do this through reviews, opinions, direct references, short articles, etc.  Whatever way you utilize, you will include a link or a banner that takes the customer to the affiliate company’s website and thus start to make extra money online.  Through every sale that goes through, you earn a nice payout, depending on the terms of the company.  Thus it gives you a great way to make extra money at home.

Article Writing – Many people do not realize the possibility of making money from online writing.  If you have it in you to write, there is no shortage of writing online.  Even if you do not have that flair for writing you can still earn money online.  You can make e-books.  There are various sites that sell e-books.  You may promote these to people wholike to read but do not know where they are available on the net.  You may supply these and get a cut from the dealers.  You can do this from a small web site of yours.  It takes minutes to start a single page web site.  When writing articles, try to write as if you’re speaking to someone you know.  Try to keep it light and friendly.  Don’t forget to check your spelling and grammar, though.

Online Business – If you have an idea for a business, you may start doing it online.  If you don’t know how to start a website, check my blog later for a link that may assist you to get a site up and running very quickly!  You can sell almost anything online, the sky’s the limit!  Examples of what you may sell online are physical products, trainings, services, e-books, etc.

I hope I have given you some insight on why people are beginning to work from home.  We all want to be successful, but we also want to enjoy life.  These days, with the myriad of work from home choices, maybe we can have our cake and eat it too.

[Time-Sensitive] Get Unlimited 'Authority' Backlinks For Unlimited Webpages

A new link building system has just been launched and I'm in!

In my opinion, the uniqueness of this system are two folds:

1) Every article you submit is distributed to hundreds of sites.

- Most other services only distribute to a handful, which means more articles need to be prepared.

2) It builds backlinks to the webpages where your articles are published!

- They call it Dual-linking system. It is an ingenious concept!

- What it means is the backlinks that you receive from this system carry more weight and authority, which will boost your search engine ranking further.

I like the system. You should get in too.  But ONLY if you have your own domain hosted by a paid web-hosting service.  Free web-hosting will not let you put in the necessary code to make use of this beautiful strategy to create free backlinks!

Moreover, the system has just been launched. If you get in fast enough, you can still enjoy the early bird discount of up to 50%!

The spots are taken up fast. Go get it before it's gone!

How to set up a free autoresponder to make a squeeze page

Couple of days ago, I set out to make a video tutorial on how to set-up a free autoresponder to make a squeeze page (otherwise known as a landing or a capture page).  It wasn't terribly hard to do...  Although the search for a proper screen recorder kind of gave me a headache.  Of course you have your venerable Camtasia, but you also have other options such as the excellent BB Flashback.

BB Flashback comes in three (3) flavors: Express (FREE), Standard, and Pro.  I first downloaded and installed the free version and it works like a charm.  Only thing is, you can't add annotations or add text boxes or effects to hide private information that might appear on screen while you're recording away.  Standard and Pro are the way to go if you're serious about this.  Head on over to their website to take a gander.

Another potentially promising piece of free software is Camstudio.  I can't say anything about it until I've actually installed and tried it, but it's sitting on my hard drive just waiting for me.  Maybe I'll write about my experiences with it next time.

On to my video tutorial then.  Minimal preparation, no scripts.  It's rather obvious when you watch it, too.  However, I gather it's not that bad.  I have a lot of "okay?" and "alright" and "uhmmm" and throat-clearing sounds, but the message, I believe, was successfully conveyed.  If you want to watch it, here's the link.

Unfortunately, I have a really old laptop, so the software (trial version of BB Flashback Standard) did something weird to my screen that made it scroll all the way down with no way to stop it.  End result: the video was 13 minutes long, and 8GB heavy.  I had to find a way to edit the video (because you'll hear me ranting and saying all kinds of stuff just to pass the time while waiting for the screen to scroll all the way down) and whittle it down to a size that Youtube would accept (2GB or less).

Fortunately, I have Zwei-Stein, a free video editor you can download off the internet.  It let me cut off the frames I didn't need, and it did so without nary a hiccup.  Also by divine providence, I was able to secure a trial copy of the software called AVS Video Converter, which shaved off A LOT of weight from my file.  Final file size without any significant quality loss: 25MB.  I'm a happy camper, so to speak.

So my video tutorial is up and running in Youtube.  The only thing left is for people to watch it and learn from it.  I hope you'll do me the honor of taking a look.  Learn how to set-up freeautobot, a free autoresponder, to make a squeeze page, for your list-building activities, on your quest for financial freedom as an internet marketer!

To your success,

Make Money by Writing

I created another page to my site, and it deals with making money by writing.  Lots of people nowadays feel that life is too stressful, especially if you're an employee.  While others thrive in the workplace, there are people like me who would really rather work at home, if possible.  Writing is one such opportunity to make money while you're at home.  If you have the chops for writing, you can do part-time or full-time work with Odesk or Elance, advertising your authoring skills for all the world to see.  However, bear in mind that competition is really fierce.  Other people jockeying for the same job you're bidding for are published authors, editors, and teachers.  In other words, you might begin wondering if writing is really something you can go into.  Well, here's the good news:  YOU CAN.

If you really want it, start by beefing-up your so-called portfolio.  Start writing articles, blogs, etc.  Research on your topic, be some kind of an authority on something.  Most of all, invest in your own development.  Don't be afraid of spending a little money if it helps you in the long run.  Lots of people are short-sighted and only concentrate on how much they could lose when they should be looking at what they could potentially gain.  In that vein, I present to you an e-course I found online.  It's a far cry from the usual $30-50.  In fact, it's only $19.99.  And since it's offered in Clickbank, should you wish to refund your purchase, the guarantee is iron-clad: 60 days full money-back.  That's a heck of a lot of time to get your act together, don't you think?  If you decide to work at home and make money by writing, I don't think you can pass on this opportunity to enrich yourself by trying out this very affordable e-course.

Start your journey.  Get it HERE.

Magnetic Marketing - Getting the right people to work for and with you

I created another site to promote Mike Dillard's excellent course on Magnetic Marketing.  It deals mainly with getting the right people to join or partner with you, be it for MLM downlines, or affiliate marketers.  The premise is intriguing: be the person those people will seek out instead of the other way around.  He is soundly recommended by known marketers such as James Hicks.  It's a very appealing proposition if you think about it. Imagine not hounding people (such as friends and relatives) who are not interested and instead "attracting" the people who are doing the same thing as you to work for and with you.  Can you imagine how strong your downlines/marketers would be?  Can you imagine the passive and residual income you will generate by having the right people working for you, with passion and determination?  That's the secret of Magnetic Marketing, and you can get it HERE!

Do yourselves a favor and check it out.  Invest in your personal wealth.  There's a saying "Reap what you sow."  Isn't it about time you started planting?

I've been going crazy these past few days because my siblings purchased a new router and its signal isn't nearly as strong as the old one.  I won't go into the details why this change was necessary though, you don't need to know that hehe.  As for the new router, it's a TP-Link TL-WR740N, which has favorable reviews.  It's cheap, it has bandwidth management, and it's Draft N compliant.  Downside is, the antenna is non-removable, so you can't change it.  Now ever since it came on, I've been getting disconnected left and right.  I guess I can't completely blame it, as my laptop's miniPCI wireless network adapter is almost 8 or 9 years old.  Nonetheless, I didn't experience this with the old router (D-Link).  So how do you improve your router's wifi signal strength without spending a lot of money?  Easy.

Introducing:
The Alien-thingy parabolic DIY wifi antenna booster!

Well, that's really not what it's called, but that's what my nephew likes to call it.  I searched Youtube and out pops this video about a crazy DIY wifi antenna booster that supposedly worked, and worked well!  I was intrigued.  All it took was cardboard, scissors, tape or glue, aluminum foil, and a little perseverance (I have a lot of that!).  Here's what it looks like:

Anyway, my nephew didn't believe that this thing works, so I took a snapshot of the signal difference using inSSIDer.  Here's the snapshot:

So there you have it, concrete proof that it works!  That's the poor man's way of improving wifi signal strength using everyday materials and a little perseverance and patience.  For you DIY freaks out there who would like to give this a try, here's the link: Free Antennas.  If, on the off-chance that you don't have the patience, I'll make one for you (for a small fee, of course), easy-peesy!

Check you guys out next time, take care and happy new year!
